TUPELO – A Tupelo man was taken to the hospital Thursday night with multiple gunshot wounds after what was believed to be the first shooting to occur this year in Tupelo.
The shooting was reported about 6:45 p.m. Thursday at 607 S. Church St.
Jimmy Wardlow, 28, Route 1, Box 242, Saltillo, was shot at least two to three times in his right side, chest and under the arm. Wardlow was in critical condition Thursday night in the North Mississippi Medical Center.
Bobby Young, 21, 607 S. Church St., was charged with aggravated assault in connection with the shooting.
A brother of the victim said Wardlow and Young were in the house arguing when Wardlow allegedly threatened Young with a knife.
The incident occurred at Wardlow’s sister’s home, which is also the home of Young and his girlfriend.
Capt. Harold Chaffin said Tupelo officers were still trying to sort through information and interviews in connection with the incident late Thursday.
