AMORY – Floyd Powell, 86, died on Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Aberdeen. Born on Sept. 14, 1925, in Smithville, he was a son of the late James Fletcher and Lessie Walker Powell.
Mr. Powell attended Smithville School. He served in the United States Navy. He retired as a boiler mechanic at the Columbus Air Force Base. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Powell was a member of Smithville Masonic Lodge 548. Mr. Powell enjoyed just being able to sit and talk with people, especially his children, grandchildren, and most especially his great grandchildren. He enjoyed listening to Gospel music on TV Channel 39. He had stated in his own words that his greatest accomplishment was, that he had lived long enough to see his children grown.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Margaret Marie Powell, Smithville; daughters, Glenda Keeton (Ray), Amory, Diane Murray (Wade), Smithville, Donna Powell (Lisa), Columbus; sister, Flora Mae Hathcote (Frank), Amory; sister-in-law; Quinta Scarfo, Lynn Haven, Fla.
He is also survived by his grandchildren, Michael Parham (Kim), Milan, Tenn., Bradley Parham (Katherine), Amory, Jason Keeton, Amory, Chris Murray (Doreen), Broken Arrow, Okla., Amanda Murray Lay (John Michael), Amory, Drayden and Dylan Meggs, Columbus.
He was the proud great-grandfather of Ethan Bickerstaff, Ryan Parham, Ashlee Parham, Allison Parham, Jillian Lay, Turner Murray, Claire Murray, Jenna Kate Murray and Lauren Pate.
A special friend, Dale Swan, and a host of nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Randall Powell; brother, Thomas Francis Powell; sisters, Lalia Moore, Mildred Vines, and Faye Mason; his friend and co-worker, Carl West.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 3 p.m. today, July 21, at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home with Bro. Wes White and Bro. David Highland officiating. Burial will follow in Smithville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Michael Parham, Ryan Parham, Bradley Parham, Jason Keeton, Chris Murray, John Michael Lay, Ethan Bickerstaff and Dale Swan.
Memorials may be given to a charity of choice.

Olen Jourdan Jr.
IUKA – David Olen “Oley” Jourdan Jr., 83, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Magnolia Regional Health Center in Corinth.
Once again Iuka has lost a favored son in the death of David Olen Jourdan, Jr., affectionately known as “Olen” or “Oley”.Mr. Jourdan was born to D.O. and Mary Aliene Ragland Jourdan on Feb. 16, 1929. Olen graduated from Iuka High School and the University of Mississippi School Of Business. While at Ole Miss he was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity. He married Betty Jane “B.J.” Harris of Cherokee, Ala., while on leave from the U.S. Army. He was stationed in Fort Benning, Ga., before being deployed to Korea. After his service as a Second Lieutenant during the Korean conflict, Mr. Jourdan returned to Iuka where he was co-owner of the family business, J.C. Jourdan Lumber Company.
Oley’s roots ran deep in Iuka and Tishomingo County and he was passionate about many local entities. He was a member of the Iuka United Methodist Church, where he served on the Administrative Board and as chairman of the Finance Committee for many years. He served as chairperson of the Mississippi United Methodist Foundation and continued to serve as a board member. He was a member of the Board of Directors of Wood Community College, and was a longtime member of the Iuka Rotary Club, where he received the club’s highest honor of being named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was on the Board of Directors of Iuka Guaranty Bank and a member of the Friends of the Iuka Library. A loyal Rebel, Oley served as president of the national Ole Miss Alumni Association, served on the Ole Miss Athletic Association Board, the Ole Miss Athletic Committee, and the Northeast Mississippi Alumni Association.
Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Iuka United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jon Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery. Cutshall Funeral Home of Iuka is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, B.J. Harris Jourdan of Iuka; one son, D.O. “Bubba” Jourdan III of Iuka; one daughter, Jane Jourdan Rhea of Iuka; six grandchildren, Bo Rhea (Rebecca) of Memphis, Jourdan Rhea (Carey) of Memphis, Harris Rhea (Kathryn) of Tupelo, Millie Jourdan Seymour (Dixon) of Birmingham, Ala., and David O. Jourdan IV and Katie Rose Jourdan, both of Iuka; three great-grandchildren, Ellie and Lucy Rhea of Memphis and Clayton Rhea of Tupelo.
Pallbearers will be Bob Brown, Clinton Brown, John Castleberry, Tony Gaines, Robert Grisham, Gene Jourdan, Raymond Jourdan, and Bill Turner. Honorary pallbearers will be Calvin Seay, James Belue, Lucion Puckett and members of the 9:35 Coffee Club.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. today, July 21, at Iuka United Methodist Church.

RIPLEY – Elizabeth Elliott “Woody” Cox Nichols, 93, died Friday, July 20, 2012, at Quince Nursing and Rehab Center in Memphis. She was born July 24, 1918, to Lee Roy Cox Sr. and Clara Finger Cox in Ripley. She retired from the Mississippi State Department of Human Services with many years of service. She was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church in Ripley.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at McBride Funeral Home Chapel in Ripley with the Rev. Jason Harms officiating. Burial will be in Tippah Memorial Gardens in Ripley. McBride Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, Jay Nichols (Paula) of Roebuck, S.C., and Jeff Nichols of Memphis; two grandchildren, Marc Nichols (Beth) of Murphreesboro, Tenn., and Emily Lehman of Nashville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Nichols; her parents; one brother, Lee Roy “Bub” Cox Jr.; and two sisters, Francis Ferguson and Mary Crosby.
Pallbearers will be Gary King, Irvin Schatz, Kyle Smith, Marc Nichols, Bobby Mays and Dr. Charles Elliott.

FULTON – Sara L. Kilgore, 82, died Friday, July 20, 2012. She was born on Aug. 19, 1929, to Jesse Lee and Rosa Vance Harbin in Carroll County. She was a member of the Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. She enjoyed being with her family.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Sunday at Senter Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Lloyd Minor and Bro. Robert Humphries officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce Mackey (David) of Fulton; three sons, Mike Kilgore (Mendy), Eddie Kilgore (Debbie) and Jessie Kilgore (Pam), all of Fulton; daughter-in-law, Jan Kilgore of Starkville; sister, Sadie Hill of Maryland; 20 grandchildren; and 39 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Kilgore; her parents; and two sons, Guy L. Blakely and Richard W. Kilgore.
Pallbearers will be Michael Kilgore, Phillip Mackey, Kevin Mackey, Chris Kilgore, Jason Kilgore and Jerry Kilgore.

BRUCE – Willie Ray Sanders, 70, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. He was born Jan. 26, 1942, in Pontotoc County. He was a retired manager of the Memphis Hardwood Company and a member of Bruce Worship Center.
Services will be at 1 p.m. today at the Bruce Worship Center with Bro. Sherman Adams officiating. Burial will be in the Bruce Cemetery. Pryor Funeral Home of Calhoun City is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two sons, David Ray Sanders of Old Town and Patrick Sanders of Bruce; a stepson, Josh (Tammy) Duke of Kentucky; three daughters, Sheron Sanders of Old Town, Tammy Sanders of Old Town and Lisa (Tommy) Mills of Vardaman; a stepdaughter, Sherry Holder of Bruce; niece, Bernidette Sanders of Tunica; sister-in-law, Mary Sanders of Mobile, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a special caregiver, Diane Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie T. and Eva L. Sanders; and a brother, George Sanders.
