Tupelo buys properties

TUPELO – The city will purchase 6 acres of land in the downtown residential area with plans to demolish its structures and convert the area into a park.

City Council members 5-1 on Tuesday to seal the deal, which includes three properties.

Two are on Chapman Street, for $16,000 and $25,000; and one is the old military school on the corner of Clayton and Blair streets, for $335,000.

Ward 3 Councilman Jim Newell was the lone opponent. Ward 6 Councilman Mike Bryan was absent.
