FULTON – The 2011 ICC Men’s Basketball Team
Camp proved to be one of the most competitive and exciting camps ICC head coach Marty Cooper has seen in recent years as 11 teams battled for the right to be called champions at the Davis Event Center.
“We had a really exciting camp this year,” Cooper said. “There were a lot of great games and some surprising upsets, but overall it was a very competitive and fun brand of basketball to watch.”
Coach Jimmy Guy McDonald’s Houlka Wildcats set the tone early in tournament play by upsetting the West Point Green Wave before former ICC football standout Devin Hill’s Hamilton Lions nearly upset eventual tournament champion the Tupelo Golden Wave.
In the final game of the day, Tupelo fell behind their Lee County rivals Shannon 15-5 in the first quarter before rallying to defeat the Red Raiders 57-40 to claim the 2011 ICC Team Camp Championship.
“This camp is a great opportunity to get our area kids in our gym and to see how great our campus is along with all of our facilities,” Cooper said. “It also gives us a chance to look at some of these kids that are getting ready to be seniors next year.”
