Tupelo Community Theatre offered two student productions of “Miracle on 34th Street” on Wednesday for students. More than 1,000 children came for the show from Shannon, Mooreville, Calhoun County, Houlka, North Pontotoc and Saltillo school districts, and home-schoolers also came out.
Tom Booth, director of TCT, said many of the kids were really impressed and it was a first trip to the Lyric for a lot of students.
The holiday classic’s opening night is tonight at 7:30 p.m., followed by performances at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday at The Lyric.
Tickets are $18/adults, $6/students.
TCT is partnering with Boys and Girls Scouts’ Food for Families’ drive, so free concessions will be available for those who bring canned food to the productions.
TCT’s production is faithful to the original story with a few updates to references to toys and other things.
