TUPELO – Tupelo High School will host a community tailgate before today’s football season opener.

Parents, businesses, Wave fans, organizations and churches are invited to set up a tent on the football practice field, between noon and 3 or after 4 p.m. The tailgate begins at 5 p.m.

The event also will celebrate the 100th anniversary of Tupelo High School.

“This provides an opportunity not only for parents to spend time with teachers and staff, but also for parents to spend time with each other, and that is important,” said THS Community Liaison Christy Weir. “We have events throughout the year to discuss business, but this is about having fun and getting to know each other on a personal and social level.”

Grills must be placed on grassy areas, and guests are asked not to pull any vehicles or trailers onto the field because of the underground sprinkler system.

Tonight also marks the debut of a new website that will feature live broadcasts of all THS football games. The website, goldenwaveathletics.com, also works on smartphones, meaning fans can watch the feed – and instant replays – while attending the game. Craig Horton and Todd Jordan will call the game, and THS students will help with filming and production.
