Tupelo man acquitted on child-porn charges

ABERDEEN – Steven Metcalf of Tupelo was found not guilty Tuesday by a federal jury on child-pornography charges.
Metcalf, 47, went on trial Monday before U.S. District Judge Sharion Aycock.
He was indicted last February on two counts, that he used a minor to make sexually explicit images for distribution and that he had child pornography images on a cell phone.
If convicted, he faced up to 40 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.
George L. Lucas, the federal public defender who represented Metcalf, said they were “delighted” by the verdict and “felt the jury did an excellent job of reviewing the evidence and following the instructions given by the court.”
