Tupelo man charged with DUI death in connection with pedestrian incident

Update: Bond has been set at $300,000 for John Gillentine on charges of DUI causing death.
The bond was set by Lee County Justice Court Judge Rickey Thompson.

TUPELO – A 27-year-old man was charged with DUI causing death and
arraigned at the Lee County Justice Court on Friday in connection with
the Thursday morning death of Elizabeth “Betty” Montgomery. John
Shannon Gillentine of Tupelo faces a charge of DUI causing death.
His bond will be set at 2 p.m. Charges stems from a 5:40 a.m.
incident when Montgomery was hit by a vehicle while on her morning
walk. She was taken to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo
where she died from injuries sustained from the collision.
Gillentine also was charged with his second DUI, careless
driving and having no proof of insurance. If convicted, the DUI
causing death charge carries a minimum of five years and up to 25
years in the state penitentiary with mandatory service of 85
percent of the sentence.
