TUPELO MAN FACES 30-YEAR SENTENCE AFTER CONVICTION FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT OF YOUNG GIRL
A Tupelo man faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison after being convicted Friday of the sexual battery of a 13-year-old girl.
A Circuit Court jury deliberated about 4 1/2 hours before returning its guilty verdict against Jeffery Wayne Knight, said Assistant District Attorney Rowland Geddie. Circuit Court Judge Thomas Gardner presided over the three-day trial.
Knight, 32, was also tried on a fondling charge involving a 5-year-old, but the jury acquitted him of that charge, Geddie said.
Knight remained in custody Friday awaiting sentencing, which should happen in about two weeks, Geddie said.
