TUPELO – The city has closed its recycling location at the intersection of West Main Street and Coley Road, as planned.
Residents can now bring recyclables to the bins located at 338 Commerce Street, the city’s compost site, according to Amanda Daniel of the Tupelo Public Works Department. City officials are making plans to upgrade that site.
The site at West Main and Coley was closed due to its location at Fire Station No. 6. Officials feared fire trucks might be blocked in during an emergency.
Recycling materials accepted at the Commerce location include newspaper, cardboard, aluminum and steel cans, and No. 1 plastic and No. 2 plastic bottles.
Hazardous waste recycling can be done at 604 Crossover Road. That site accepts items such as batteries, paint, herbicides and insecticides.
