MENDED HEARTS MEETING: The Tupelo – Chapter 97 dinner/meeting of Mended Hearts will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28, room 21, first floor, NMMC East Tower. Meal cost $11. Reservations are needed. Meetings are held on the last Thursday of each month.
HISTORICAL/GENEALOGICAL MEETING: The Northeast Mississippi Historical and Genealogical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28 in the Helen Foster Auditorium, Lee County Library, 219 North Madison. Edwina Carpenter, director of Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield and Visitors Center in Baldwyn will present a program on the Civil War battleground and the upcoming Civil War re-enactment planned in June. PLANTERSVILLE TOWN MEETING: The city of Plantersville will hold a town meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 28 at the Plantersville Community Center. QUEEN FOR A KING PAGEANT: The Elvis Presley Festival will host the Queen for a King Pageant at 6 p.m. Friday, May 29 in the Lawhon Elementary auditorium. Open to female contestants age 21 and under; categories for each age group. POKER RUN FUNDRAISER: Crye-Leike Realtors of Tupelo is hosting a motorcycle poker run fundraiser Saturday, May 30. The motorcycle run benefits Relay For Life. PANCAKE BREAKFAST FUNDRAISER: The North Lee Civitan Club will host a pancake breakfast Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Mayfield Church of Christ located on Highway 145 just north of Mobile Street in Saltillo. The breakfast plates will sell for $5 with the proceeds from the event going to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life. DANCE FOR A CURE: The American Cancer Society will host a “Dance for a Cure” Saturday, May 30 at the Saltillo Community Center between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m. The event is open to all ages with music from the ’50s all the way to today’s hits, all music will be family friendly plus our DJ will be Kevin Russell. Only $5 at the door and hamburger plates will be available. Proceeds to benefit the American Cancer Society.

SALTILLO PUMP PARK DEDICATION: The Saltillo Historical Committee will host a dedication ceremony at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 31 on the corner of Mobile and Second Street for Pump Park. The old pump has been fully restored and is in working order. Saltillo’s Historical Committee worked with the town of Saltillo to get the new pump going and the park dedicated. The Simmons Sisters will pump the first water. Jacob Brock will provide entertainment and refreshments will be served.

CANNING/FREEZING PROGRAM: The Lee County Extension Service will be offering a program on canning and freezing food on Tuesday, June 2 at 10:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Presenters will be MSUES area agents Linda Wilemon and Judith Ward. CIVIL WAR RE-ENACTMENTS: The re-enactment of the battles of Brice’s Crossroads and Tupelo will be Friday, June 12; Saturday, June 13; and Sunday, June 14, with Confederate and Union camps open 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Demonstrations. Discovery Day from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Friday for ages 8 to 13. Downtown parade at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Battle of Brice’s Crossroads will be at 2 p.m. Saturday; Battle of Tupelo will be 2 p.m. Sunday. Parking available at Brice’s Crossroads Visitors Center.
