TUPELO – Tupelo Police now have one more tool in their back pocket when fulfilling their day-to-day duties. They were accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) at the organizations national awards banquet in Charleston, S.C. this weekend.
“I’m excited and delighted to report to the citizens of Tupelo that the Tupelo Police Department has achieved Mississippi State Accreditation form the Department of Public Safety and that we are recognized nationally by CALEA,” Carleton said. “We have been working diligently for the past two years to achieve this accreditation.”
The accreditation comes after the department went through a self imposed department auditing process that makes sure Tupelo Police meet CALEA’s 123 stand policies and is run professionally according the national guidelines.
Carleton has previously said he wanted to achieve this recognition as an added level of accountability and recognition for the department.
