TUPELO – The City Council this week renewed its residential garbage and recycling contract with Waste Management until July 2013.
It had been set to expire this summer after an initial four-year term.
The move locks in current monthly rates for Tupelo residents, who pay $11.11 for twice-weekly trash pickup and $1.35 for twice-monthly recycling pickup.
Waste Management doesn’t collect recycling from apartments, however.
Its the only extension allowed in the contract, meaning the city must solicit bids for a new deal once it expires.
