TUPELO – A group of Tupelo residents announced on Thursday that they were forming a new non-profit corporation dedicated to supporting the Tupelo Public School District.
Leaders Engaged for the Advancement of Public Schools, Inc., or LEAPS, will act as an advocate for teachers, parents and students and citizens in the district, according to a press release sent by the organization. Its goals include fact gathering and promoting open dialogue, accountability and fiscal responsibility of the schools.
Rob Hudson will serve as LEAPS president, Lisa Hawkins in one of its board members.
Both are successful business owners. Hudson owns several McDonald’s franchises in the area, including in Tupelo, Saltillo and New Albany, through his company, Hudson Management Corp., based in Tupelo.
Hawkins is owner and president of Room to Room Furniture in Tupelo.
