TUPELO – Hundreds of visiting Gold Wing Road riders will be in town next week.
The 23rd annual Mississippi Gold Wing Road Riders Association district convention kicks off Thursday at noon and runs through Saturday.
Last year, about 1,200 people attended, according to Bobby Bryant, district director for the association.
“I’m hoping we set a new record,” he said.
The group is putting on a show Thursday night with a lighted bike parade through downtown Tupelo. Bryant expects it will start around 9 p.m., ending at the arena.
The majority of the events are at the BancorpSouth Arena, including the merchandise area.
The Amazing Team Riding Challenge will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the BancorpSouth Arena parking lot. For the challenge, registered participants will take a timed ride through a course.
The convention also features motorcycle riding courses such as the advanced rider course, the experienced rider course and the trike course, all conducted by certified instructors. Participants can register and pay for the courses at the event.
Day passes to the events are $10. Doors open at noon Thursday on the east side of the BancorpSouth Arena.
