Two accused of dumping dead calves

djournal-In-the-NewsSPRINGS (AP) – Marshall County sheriff’s deputies say they arrested two men accused of dumping nine calf carcasses into a ditch, and will turn the case over to agriculture officials.

Sheriff’s Maj. Kelly McMillan tells The Commercial Appeal of Memphis that the calves were among 56 owned by a man who lost most of them to illness.

He says the man gave some of the carcasses to two men who thought they were edible but dumped them after realizing they were not safe to eat.

He did not identify the men, who were identified after detectives got several tips from the community.

McMillan says they were arrested Friday and released on bond.
