Two charged in burglary after resident shot one

By NEMS Daily Journal

OXFORD – Two men have been charged with burglary in an incident last week after a break-in in which residents returned home and found a vehicle
at their back door and surprised two strangers who were inside their apartment.
The female resident shot one of the men, who then fled.
Adam Shaw, 25, of Oxford, was admitted to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds after a canine police team arrested him nearby.
Maurice J. Martin, 24, of Oxford, was also arrested and charged. Bond was set at $15,000 for Martin.
The shooting is still under investigation.
Mississippi has a “Castle Doctrine” law, which gives broad leeway for residents to use deadly force in defending themselves in their homes, businesses and cars.
