STARKVILLE— Officials in Oktibbeha County say deputies had to shoot a pit bull dog after getting a weekend call about two children who were bitten.
Deputies answering the Saturday afternoon call reported encountering five dogs and had to shoot the most aggressive one, according to a report in The Dispatch.
An Oktibbeha sheriff’s press release said both children had numerous bites and scratches. Both were taken to hospitals. Their conditions were unavailable.
Chief Deputy George Carrithers said a court hearing will be held on the future of the remaining dogs.
Starkville Police Department Animal Control Officer Rick McKee helped transport the dogs. He said not all pit bulls are aggressive but the ones in the weekend incident have been unpredictable.
