SOUTHAVEN — Now that Olive Branch has enacted a partial smoking ban for its restaurants and businesses, that leaves Horn Lake and Southaven as the last two of the five cities in DeSoto County that have not adopted any type of anti-smoking laws.
In Southaven, the third-largest city in the state, Mayor Greg Davis tells The Commercial Appeal he doesn’t believe government should interfere in the private sector on this issue.
He said that four years ago, the smoking ban issue came up in the city, but it went up in smoke.
Davis says the board of aldermen has not brought up the smoking ban issue, but later this summer he plans to propose a less restrictive law, possibly requiring new businesses to have smoking areas with separate ventilation.
