IUKA – A 3-year-old reportedly is recovering from injuries suffered as a result of abuse, and two adults have been charged with felony child abuse in the case.
Jennifer Hale Belue, 30 – the child’s mother – was arrested on Monday at her 1330 W. Ash St., Iuka, residence, according to a report in the Tishomingo County News.
Later charged was Johnnie Lee Massengill, 27, who also reportedly had been living at the residence.
A family friend who visited the home on Monday saw the 3-year-old lying on a sofa with severe bruising, the TC News report said. She left for help and returned with a police officer, who arrested Belue and called for an ambulance.
The child was taken from the home and flown to LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn.
The newspaper further reported that another child was removed from the home at the time of the mother’s arrest.
Both children are in the custody of the state Department of Human Services, a family member said.
A DHS spokesperson could not be reached for an update on the child’s condition.
