Two horseback riders involved in Alcorn County accident

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is still investigating a Sunday evening crash on MS 2, near Kossuth, in Alcorn County, involving two horseback riders, according to Trooper Ray Hall.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 7:15 p.m. Upon arriving it appeared Frankie Guynes, 53, of Corinth and Jessie Bowden, 54, of Rienzi, were riding separate horses in the east bound lane of MS 2.

Apparently both riders and horses were struck by as east bound 1997 Jeep, driven by Robert Clayton, 44, of Rienzi.

Guynes an Bowden were both airlifted to NMMC in Tupelo. They are continuing to recover.

Clayton was uninjured in the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
