Two injured in robbery of doughnut store in Starkville

STARKVILLE – A Weir man was arrested in connection with an armed robbery Tuesday morning at Shipley’s Doughnuts in Starkville.
George Johnson, 21, is charged with armed robbery and two counts of aggravated assault.
According to the Starkville Police Department, Johnson entered the store on Highway 12, pulled a knife on a female clerk and demanded money. The clerk’s throat was cut, and a male clerk suffered similar injuries when he fought off the suspect.
The suspect reportedly received head injuries and fled the scene, and was arrested later while walking on Highway 25 South.
The female clerk was listed in stable condition Tuesday at the Oktibbeha County Hospital after surgery. The male clerk was treated and released.
The clerks’ names have not been released.
