One killed in Friday crashes in region

At approximately 8:30 a.m. FridayMississippi State News, the Mississippi Highway Patrol was dispatched to MS Highway 365, approximately 4 miles north of Burnsville, in Tishomingo County, to a one-vehicle motorcycle accident.

Upon arriving, it appeared Shannon Russell, 38, of Iuka, was traveling south on MS 365, when she apparently lost control of her 2011 Yamaha and ran off the road before colliding into some trees.

She was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.

The accident is still under investigation.

Also Friday, troopers responded to a head-on collision on MS Hwy. 178 , near U.S. 78 in Itawamba County, at approximately 2 p.m., Friday.

Upon arriving, it appeared Richard Loague, 19, of Fulton, was traveling westbound in a 1992 Nissan pick-up when his vehicle collided head on with a 2005 Buick SUV, driven by Sarah Brown, 44, of Nettleton.

Both Loague and Brown were transported with moderate injuries to NMMC by ambulance.

A passenger in Brown’s vehicle was also transported to NNMC with moderate injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
