RIPLEY – There will be a mayoral run-off Tuesday, Feb. 28 between Breat Tye and Chris Marsalis, according to official election results.

After affidavit ballots were counted Wednesday morning and the election certified, Tye had out polled Marsalis 262-244.

Voters thinned a nine-man mayoral field to those two men Tuesday despite election problems earlier in the day. About an hour after voting began, Tye discovered that his name had been left off the ballot used by electronic voting machines.

City election officials quickly conferred, then opted to use paper ballots and continue the election.

Listed alphabetically, here are the official vote totals – including absentee and affidavit ballots – from Tuesday’s election: Joe Akins, 60; Charles Braddock, 138; Lewis Davis, 216; Jon Grisham, 204; Jerrell Lewellen, 132; Chris Marsalis, 244; Benjamin “Ben” Ridge, 55; Matthew Smart, 30; and Tye, 262.

According to official election figures, 1,342 votes were cast of a total of 3,675 registered voters.
