Sonya Umfress of Fulton has been chosen as the February Employee of the Month for North Mississippi Medical Clinics.
Umfress works as a receptionist at Fulton Medical Clinic. Prior to joining the clinic, Umfress worked as a Workers’ Compensation receptionist and clerical supervisor at Med Serve Urgent Care Clinic in Tupelo. She transferred to Fulton Medical Clinic in January 2007.
She is a graduate of Washington High School and attended Delta State University in Cleveland, Miss., where she received a bachelor’s degree.
“Sonya is constantly looking for ways to improve processes and is a role model to other employees,” her nomination stated. “Our patients can tell that she genuinely cares about them.”
Grayden Tubb, M.D., family physician at Fulton Medical Clinic, said Umfress always has a great attitude. “She is good natured and easy going and always puts our patients first, no matter what the situation.”
“What I love most about my job is the day-to-day interaction with our patients at the front desk and on the phone,” Umfress said. “Not a day goes by that I am not touched by a patient. We have a dynamic team here at Fulton Medical Clinic and it is a joy and a blessing to work with them.”
Umfress and her husband Joey have two daughters – Brittany and Jessyca Umfress. The family attends Grace Fellowship Baptist Church in Hatley, where she mentors members of the youth group. She has worked with Relay for Life in Itawamba County, as well as helped with coat drives, food pantry projects and county flu and health fairs.
