St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Oxford is offering a $1000 purchase prize to the artist who wins its “Sesquicentennial Art Competition.”

The competition is in honor of the church’s 150th anniversary, and is part of a scheduled year-long series of events and celebrations.

Any artists, regardless of their church affiliation, may enter. The art may be in any style or media, but artists must use St. Peter’s Episcopal Church as the inspiration for their work.

A series of limited edition prints will be made of the winning entry, and the artist will be asked to sign the first 100 copies.

Entries are due April 9, 2001. All works will be exhibited April 15 through May 6, with a reception in the winner’s honor scheduled for May 4, 2001.

Tupelo

Gospel quartet will

perform Saturday

The Old Friends Quartet will present a gospel concert Saturday, Jan. 6 at the Tupelo Civic Auditorium.

The doors open at 6 p.m., but George Younce, Jake Hess, Wesley Pritchard and Ernie Haas won’t take the stage until 7 p.m.

Tickets are $14.50 in advance with group and senior discounts available. Tickets at the door are $16.50.
