TUPELO – The United Way is asking Northeast Mississippians to help raise $2.4 million in this year’s fundraising campaign.
Joe Estess, campaign chairman for United Way of Northeast Mississippi, announced the goal Saturday morning during their annual Back to School Resource Fair.

“The goal last year was at at $2.3 million and we raise the ante up another hundred thousand,” Estess said. “We’re confident with the folks of Northeast Mississippi that we’ll raise the money no problem.”

Estess said his company, the Magnolia Business Center, got involved in the United Way four years ago and have seen had 100 percent employee participation in the United Way because of the impact they’ve seen the money have on the community.

“All of that money goes back into the seven counties in north Mississippi and our 69 agencies in those counties,” he said. “We’re fired up.”

For every dollar donated, 99 cents stays in Lee, Chickasaw, Union, Pontotoc, Tishomingo, Prentiss and Itawamba Counties.

The goal is to raise the money by December of this year.
