TUPELO – The United Way of Northeast Mississippi has hit its $2.3 million campaign goal. The group will have an official announcement Friday.
The United Way sent out an email last week about a “goal announcement event” scheduled for Friday at 8:30 a.m. in the Carpenter room inside the CREATE Foundation building. The event at 213 West Main St., is open to the public.
Melinda Tidwell, executive director of the United Way, said campaign chairman Rick Willis will announce the amount of money raised so far. She deferred any further questions until after Friday’s event.
As of Nov. 30, the group had raised $2,245,537, which is slightly more than 97 percent of the goal. Last year, United Way topped its $2.2 million goal by raising $2,290,815.
Its current goal of $2.3 million is the most it has ever tried to raise. The money supports 68 participating nonprofit agencies in Chickasaw, Itawamba, Lee, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Union and Tishomingo counties.
