TUPELO – The United Way of Northeast Mississippi has hit its $2.15 million campaign goal, an official confirmed Thursday.
Cathy Robertson, this year’s campaign chairwoman, said the group on Wednesday received the pledge put the group over the top.
“It’s awesome news,” she said.
The organization will have an official announcement Thursday at 8 a.m. inside the McLean Center in downtown Tupelo. Melinda Tidwell, executive director of the United Way, said the campaign numbers will be released at the event, which is open to the public.
The United Way will continue fundraising until February.
“The more we raise, the more we have to give out,” Robertson said.
The money will be divvied up among 64 nonprofit agencies in Lee, Chickasaw, Itawamba, Pontotoc, Prentiss, Tishomingo and Union counties.
Jamie Seals with the United Way said some counties raised less money than before, so any extra money will go toward helping them.
