The United Way of Northeast Mississippi on Monday is expected to announce that it has met its $2.2 million goal. The money is divided among 65 health and human service nonprofits in Lee, Itawamba, Chickasaw, Union, Pontotoc, Prentiss and Tishomingo counties. Supported agencies include the Boys & Girls Clubs of North Mississippi. This year, the organization received $96,450. The money helps support activities at the northside club, which is off North Green Street in Tupelo.
The United Way raised $2,244,000 last year. About 75 percent of pledges come from individual payroll deductions. A committee is assembled to distribute the money to agencies based on community needs and agency requests.
To donate, contact the United Way at (662) 841-9133 or P.O. Box 334, Tupelo, MS 38804.
