The driver of an 18-wheeler was airlifted to the North Mississippi Medical Center after his truck and trailer flipped over, blocking both lanes of traffic on Highway 6 East in the Furrs community Wednesday afternoon.
The highway was closed to through traffic for just over two hours as emergency crews cleared the road.
David Evans of Ecru said he and Brad Evans were driving to the store going eastbound on Highway 6 when they saw the truck, driving Westbound, swerved off the road and then back onto the road, crossing the center line and then flipping into the ditch on the other side.
“Our skid marks go all the way up to the trailer,” he said.
Highway Patrol Troopers on the scene said the diver of the truck was stable and alert when transported.
The Pontotoc Fire Department, Mississippi Highway Patrol and Pontotoc Sheriff’s Office worked the accident.
