CORINTH – Two people were killed and one person was injured in a crash that involved a person driving the wrong way on Highway 45.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol Tropper Casey Mayo, two cars collided about one mile south of the city limits of Corinth on Highway 45 around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Peggy Wages, 55, of Baldwyn, and Jeffery Bonds, 48, of Iuka, were killed in the crash. A 49-year-old male in Wages’ car was airlifted from the scene to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo with life-threatening injuries.
According to Mayo, Wages was driving a 1999 tan Chevy Malibu southbound in the left lane of 45. He said apparently a black 1997 Saturn car driven by Bonds was traveling in the wrong direction and both vehicles collided in the left lane of southbound 45.
Both drivers died at the scene from injuries sustained in the head-on crash.
Mayo said there was visible evidence at the scene that Bonds was possibly under the influence of alcohol.
The crash is under investigation to determine if alcohol did contribute to the accident.
