UPDATE: Air service in Tupelo won't be affected by move

Despite a “notice of termination” from Delta Air Lines, air service WILL NOT be affected in Tupelo, officials said this morning.

“There won’t be any interruptions in service,” said Tupelo Regional Airport Executive Director Terry Anderson.

At a news conference, Anderson distributed a letter from Mesaba Airlines president John Spanjers, who wrote that Delta had identified eight markets – including Tupelo – that “are not economically sustaining.” Mesaba is a regional carrier for Delta.

“Because we would like to continue to serve these communities, Delta and Mesaba … will take steps to receive a subsidy for continued service in these markets,” he wrote.
