OXFORD – North Mississippi has a new interim U.S. attorney today, John Marshall Alexander.
Alexander replaces Bill Martin, a career staffer, who was appointed as interim about a year ago as the Obama Administration struggled to get its federal choices through the U.S. Senate.
No official confirmation was available today, but that announcement is expected soon from Chief U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills.
Marshall has been headed the office’s criminal division most recently.
Martin replaced U.S. Attorney Jim Greenlee, who retired. Greenlee was appointed by President George W. Bush.
As for the more permanent Obama appointment, it’s believed the top names are state Sen. Gray Tollison, an Oxford attorney, and Felicia Adams of Jackson, an assistant U.S. attorney in the Jackson office of the Southern District.
