UPDATE: Cantrell v. Monroe County lawsuit settled

By NEMS Daily Journal

ABERDEEN – Cecil Cantrell has settled his lawsuit over losing the 2007 Democratic primary runoff for Monroe County sheriff.

U.S. District Judge W. Allen Pepper Jr. of Greenville signed an order of dismissal last week after being advised by attorneys for both sides.

Details about the settlement are being requested by the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal from attorneys Jim Waide of Tupelo and Berkley Huskison of Columbus.

Cantrell filed suit Aug. 21, 2008, claiming voting irregularities prevented his election to sheriff in August 2007.

Andy Hood, who won the runoff, became sheriff.
