UPDATE: Catledge friend agrees to handle deserted documents

TUPELO – Four large storage units hold the thousands of files left behind when disbarred Tupelo attorney William Catledge went to prison six months ago.

Thursday, during a chancery court hearing, his longtime friend and legal associate Sorie S. Tarawally of Jackson agreed to work with the Mississippi Bar Association on how the documents will be disposed of or returned to clients.

The daylong hearing culminated months of efforts by the Bar to safeguard the records.

Catledge is serving a 35-month prison term after June 2009 guilty pleas to mail fraud and filing fraudulent income tax reports. He’s in a federal facility in Pensacola, Fla.

For Catledge’s former clients, information is expected to be available in a few weeks on what to do to retrieve their files or to know more about pending cases.
