UPDATE: Charges against Aberdeen mayor officially dropped

By Jeff Clark/Monroe Journal

Bribery charges against Aberdeen Mayor Jim Ballard were officially dropped Wednesday in Municipal Court by Monroe County bail bondsman Keith Morgan.

The charges were dropped at the request of Monroe County Prosecutor Candace Blalock who said she had received a letter from Morgan’s attorney, Jim Waide, asking that the charges be dropped.

Ballard was arrested Thursday, April 1 after Morgan filed an affidavit against Ballard charging him with bribery after an allegedly heated argument at the Aberdeen Electric Department. Ballard was acting as interim department manager at the time of the disagreement. Waide requested the charges be dropped on Morgan’s behalf April 6.
