CORINTH – The accidental drowning on Sunday of a 5-year-old boy at a Corinth motel remains under investigation, said Corinth Police Chief David Lancaster.
The body of Jeffery Patterson, 5, of Michie, Tenn., was discovered about 6:15 p.m. Sunday after police had conducted an hour-long search for the missing child.
When police received the call to search for the missing child, they were told by his mother, Lakesha Patterson, that he had not been seen for about 45 minutes to an hour. Though they searched around the motel property, the pool area and a nearby gas station, he was not found until someone swimming found his body.
Efforts by several individuals to revive the child with CPR, including paramedics called to the scene, were unsuccessful. The child was transported to Magnolia Regional Health Center, where he was pronounced dead.
A preliminary autopsy report indicates the cause of death was accidental fresh water drowning, said Alcorn County Coroner Dan Leeth.
