UPDATE: Columbus teen dies house fire

COLUMBUS — Columbus firefighters say a a teenager died Thursday in a fire at his home.

Fire Department Capt. Andy Grant says two other people got out of the house unharmed. Grant says firefighters pulled the teenager from the house but were unable to revive him.

Lowndes County Coroner Greg Merchant identified the victim as 18-year-old Damien Harris. He was pronounced dead at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle in Columbus.

Grant says the fire was reported about 3:30 a.m. Thursday. He says firefighters would remain at the scene to put out hot spots and to begin investigating the cause of the fire.

He says the state Fire Marshal’s office would assist with the investigation.
