JACKSON — Dr. Mary Currier, the state epidemiologist and acting state health officer, will head Mississippi’s public health efforts.
The Clarion-Ledger reports the state Board of Health named Currier the new state health officer at a meeting Thursday. She has been acting health officer since the death of her boss and mentor, Dr. Ed Thompson, on Dec. 1.
Currier was state epidemiologist from 1993 to 2003. She returned to the agency in 2007 with Thompson, when he was reappointed to the post he’d held from 1993-2002.
