UPDATE: DeLaughter 'in transit,' Bureau of Prisons shows

By Patsy R. Brumfield/Daily Journal

Bobby DeLaughter, former Hinds County circuit judge, appears to be moving from a federal prison, where he has spent much of his 15-month sentence for lying to investigators in a judicial bribery probe.

DeLaughter pleaded guilty to one count of lying about conversations with his friend and former colleague, former Hinds District Attorney Ed Peters, about a case before DeLaughter – a lawsuit against Richard “Dickie” Scruggs of Oxford about legal fees.

The Bureau of Prisons’ website shows the former judge “in transit,” which at this stage may mean he’s being moved to a halfway house to complete his term.

His release date is April 23.

He continues to insist he never was bribed.
