TUPELO – A former Lee County substitute teacher will be sentenced Jan. 23 after his guilty plea to enticing a minor for illegal sex.

Mathew Blake Whitt, 25, of Tupelo faces a minimum of 10 years in prison and up to life on the federal charge.

Last September, he pleaded guilty to one count that he used interstate communications to entice a minor for sex.

Whitt had worked as a Lee County schools substitute prior to his arrest on local and federal charges.

He will be sentenced in Oxford by Chief U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills.

Whitt continues to face three Lee County charges of sex with a minor female, who was 15 when the alleged crimes occurred in 2012. He pleaded not guilty to those.

He was federally indicted last January on two counts that he enticed a minor for sex to make images for his use and to entice for sex.

Local prosecutors say they await federal action before deciding their next steps in his case in Lee County.
