JACKSON – The Mississippi Supreme Court has set July 21 as the execution date for death row inmate Joseph Daniel Burns of Belden.
The court set the date Thursday after Burns had exhausted the appeals process.
Burns was convicted in the 1994 murder of Floyd Melvin McBride during a robbery at the Town House Motel in Tupelo.
“The victim’s family has waited 16 years for justice in this case,” said Attorney General Jim Hood. “We are glad they won’t have to wait much
longer. Our prayers are with them and the family of Mr. Burns during this time.”
