JACKSON – Farm Bureau officials announced today that they have gathered enough signatures to call for a statewide vote on a proposal to prevent the government from taking private property for the use of another private entity.
Greg Gibson, a spokesman for the Farm Bureau, said the signatures will be delivered to the office of Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann Thursday.
Hosemann’s office will be responsible for verifying that the required number of signatures of registered voters – slightly less than 90,000 – has been obtained.
The measure could be on the ballot for the 2011 elections.
