UPDATE: FBI agent indicted over ownership of FBI building

BATON ROUGE — An FBI agent has been indicted on charges he concealed his ownership stake in a building the FBI uses in Oxford, Miss.

A five-count indictment handed up Wednesday by a federal grand jury in Baton Rouge also charges the agent, 49-year-old Philip Halbert Neilson, with making false statements to investigators.

Neilson was the supervisory special agent in charge of the FBI’s resident agency in Oxford when, starting in 2001, he took part in the FBI’s process of selecting a new building to house the FBI in Oxford.

The indictment says Neilson later became business partners with that building’s owners and borrowed $50,000 of the money that the federal government paid for leasing space in the building.

Neilson allegedly failed to list the Oxford FBI Building as a personal asset when he submitted a financial disclosure report in 2005.
