JACKSON — Gov. Haley Barbour has declared a state of emergency in the city of Jackson after numerous water line breaks shut down water service.
Barbour’s declaration Monday said state offices in Jackson would close Monday and nonessential state employees would go home.
Several area schools closed and called off sports and other activities.
Barbour said state offices in Jackson would be open Tuesday and employees should report back to work then, unless otherwise notified.
