UPDATE: Graves' name goes back to Senate for federal judgeship

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James Graves’ name is back before the U.S. Senate for a judgeship on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals.

The White House made the announcement today in a long list of judicial nominations, which weren’t acted upon in 2010 and had to be re-done.

Graves was nominated last June to replace retiring Rhesa Barksdale of Jackson on the New Orleans-based federal appeals court.

Both Mississippi senators – Thad Cochran and Roger Wicker – have voiced their support for Graves.

A majority of senators must approve his nomination, but first it must be recommended by the Senate Judiciary Committee.
