CHEROKEE, Ala. — Authorities say an icy road might have played a role in the death of a Florence woman who died Saturday when her car ran off the Natchez Trace Parkway and landed in a creek.
The victim was 27-year-old Cassidy McKenzie Snell. Colbert County Coroner Carlton Utley pronounced her dead at the scene of the accident that occurred around 4 p.m. Saturday about 10 miles south of U.S. 72, near the Mississippi border.
Utley says she died from blunt-force trauma and hypothermia.
Emergency workers at the scene of the wreck say she might have hit a patch of ice on a bridge that crosses Rock Creek.
The wreck was reported by a passerby who saw the rear of the car sticking out of the water.
