UPDATE: Jennings wins Democratic nod in Ward 7 in Tupelo

Willie Jennings on Wednesday won the Ward 7 Democratic nomination for Tupelo City Council 149-145 over Willie Allen when the Democratic Executive Committee counted affidavit ballots and certified the results from Tuesday’s runoff.
Jennings and Allen tied 142-142 in the Tuesday night poll count.
The committee, chaired by Henderson Jones, accepted 10 of 12 affidavit ballots in the race, with Jennings winning seven of those votes.
Jennings advances to the June 2 general election in a race against incumbent Republican Berdell Jones. Jones won the race in 2005 on a coin toss when he and Jennings tied in certified results.

In Pontotoc County, incumbent Dennis R. Simmons got both affidavits in the Democratic primary runoff to win the Alderman Ward 3 race 132 to 129 over Terry Weeks.
