UPDATE: Man charged with capital murder in brother's death

OXFORD — Police say Bilethon Autry has been charged with capital murder in the slaying of his brother during a hostage standoff in Oxford last week.

Oxford police tell WTVA-TV in Tupelo that Autry is being held without bond in the Lafayette County jail.

Oxford police responded to a 911 call Friday and encountered an armed man in a back yard. As officers approached, the man ran inside. A short time later, officers heard gunfire.

Oxford Police Chief Mike Martin has said 50-year-old Charlie Ray Hodges was shot to death.

Police say Autry was recently released from a mental hospital.

Martin says the suspect fired at officers, but didn’t hit them. During the exchange, a cleaning woman escaped the home. Autry’s father was hiding in the attic and wasn’t injured.
